This doesn't seem too unusual and she seems to have sorted herself out enough. It's the heavinesses of the room and of the situation that gets to him and he presses his lips together in a thin line.

There are some measures taken to be sure no one will overhear them, another glance over his shoulder and a sweep around the room before he looks into her eyes again. It's what she says that also presses him to be quiet for a moment.

So when she apologizes he's quick to hold up a hand to get her to stop before she can continue. There are a lot of things he could say, but he chooses a different route entirely and ignores her question.]
