He more or less just confirmed to Adam that there's a very, very big thing he's hiding and he has no way of turning that around to say he's lying. If he says he's lying, Adam gets pissed. If he says it's a secret he can't tell, Adam still gets pissed. The kid's a negotiator, clever and analytical and subtly crafty. It's something Luke could, ordinarily, appreciate.
